Summer
Dear friends of piano music,
There is a first time for
everything, and today I will quote Joe Cocker for the very first time:
"Hot town, summer in the city (.....) Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the
City. All around people looking half-dead, walking on the sidewalk, hotter than
a matchhead ...... "If possible, you shouldn't spend the summer in the
city, either in the country or on the beach ...... this year we stayed in
beautiful Heidelberg, mainly because of the pandemic. Sure, country life has
its advantages, above all you have a lot of space and can keep rabbits, while
the people here on their tiny balconies seem to me like rabbits in very tight
cages. Above all, the heat in the country does not build up like in
the cities, where the air-conditioning systems with their exhaust air make the
atmosphere outside the cooled apartments even more unbearable. In the unusually
hot summers of recent years it was often so warm in the apartment at night that
it was hardly possible to sleep. This year the temperatures have been very
moderate so far, there has been no real heatwave in Germany, so that even here
in the city summer is relatively carefree - while in many parts of Europe it is
so hot that it burns. In Mallorca, vacationers are asked not to go on excursions,
as the rescue of vacationers who had collapsed on hikes due to the heat was
already overwhelmed. You should only leave your apartment there early in the
morning and late at night, and if you don't have air conditioning, you are
recommended to spend at least two hours a day in air-conditioned public
buildings such as shopping centers or libraries. What a vacation! And while
here in Germany entire villages were recently washed away due to the extreme
rainfall, in many places people have to be evacuated because of the
heat-affected forest fires. No matter what you call it, whether climate change
or climate catastrophe, we are already in the middle of it. The problems have
been known for at least thirty years and nothing has happened. I read the other day that parents are just not
angry enough. Is that correct? I dont know.
