Nocturne

 

Dear friends of piano music,

it took me a while - maybe the general paralysis from corona is gradually affecting my brain - until I realized why Grieg's "Notturno" (Nocturne) sounds so different. Nocturne, you can expect nocturnal romantic escapades, lust walks in the moonlight and the like. At Grieg, however, there is clearly a twittering of birds. But it is also a Norwegian Nocturne, and the nights are very short in the time of year when you can walk outside at night without having to be rescued by a snow plow at worst. Just five hours in June, so the birds actually start chirping at night.

Contrary to expectations, this Nocturne, but, in my opinion, just as poetic!Stay healthy!
